In her article Too Much Pressure, Colleen Wenke expresses her views on cheating. Her tone towards cheating is negative, she explains that it is immoral and is disgusted that it has become a common practice in today's schools. The author intends for her audience to be parents and leaders in education who can make a difference in today's school systems, but also students who are in situations where they feel the need to cheat. She ends the essay with a solution to the problem that requires both adults and students. Her solution is for students to focus more on learning than making good grades.
Wenke's essay establishes its credibility by including opinions of other authors. She quotes Robin Stansbury's article When the Ends Justify the Means and another article by Robert L. Maginnis to affirm that cheating is much more common in this generation than past ones. She also includes a personal anecdote of her parents telling her that they never cheated when she complained that everyone at her school did it. The personal experience she shared was very relatable to my own experiences in high school. Wenke included her own personal experience in order to connect with the audience and also to further establish her credibility. The genre is news article.
